Exchanging experience in airport development planning

11/03/2022

Another V4+ airports meeting was dedicated to the topic of development, agreement, and approval of master plans for public use airports in the respective countries.

The meeting provided first-hand information on how master plans are developed in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. In most countries, Master Plans are not regulated by law, but are the responsibility of the airport operator.

From the research conducted by the Strategy and Development Department and from the interviews conducted, it appears that Polish regulations are among the most formalized. This is especially true concerning the process of agreeing and approving master plans, which also translates into time-consuming consultations and arrangements, as well as difficulties in the investment process at the airport.

The advantage of the Polish solution is that the Master Plan takes precedence over local authorities’ spatial development plans and responsibilities are clearly defined.”
